Librarian’s Report 2024
Another year gone in the blink of an eye. We continue to learn and strive to make everyone’s experience here positive. We’ve
worked on building our collection in all areas to promote greater inclusivity and diversity.
We are dedicated to our community and continue to work with Head Start and Early HeadStart to ensure those children have
access to books and other materials to further their learning at school and at home. We were once again fortunate to have
received grants from the Turrell Fund and the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF). Charleston Elementary School was the
recipient of CLiF’s Year of the Book Grant! This grant funds great programming, author visits, book giveaways for students, and
collection-building for CES – and for their library partner. We are happy to serve Charleston and grateful to have received over
$1000 in books to build our own children/juvenile collections.
We were happy to participate in town events such as Trunk or Treat and Holiday Magic. As much as we love the library, it’s also
great to be out and around town. Look for more programs this year, such as author visits, dinosaurs, and more. Please follow
us on Facebook or on our website, islandpondpubliclibrary.com, for up-to-date information and to access our online services,
such as GMLC for audio and e-books and Vermont Online Library for all types of learning needs.
First and foremost, our deepest thanks to our wonderful patrons. We are so appreciative of your continued support and gen-
erous donations. We would also like to thank our local businesses and clubs and the Town of Charleston and the UTG for their
appropriations and donations as well.
A big shout out to all our town officials who are supportive of our mission and to our Board of Trustees who give their time,
Special thanks to Bruce Rumball-Petre for all his help. I consider the Library to be a team and I am lucky to have such dedicat-
ed employees. Katie Mientka and Betty Storm go above and beyond. Jane Moulton always makes sure the library looks its best.
We look forward to serving the community in 2025.
Respectfully,
Michelle Wilcox - Library Director
Katie Mientka - Assistant Librarian
Betty Storm - Library Services
Jane Moulton - Cleaning Services
