General Rules
- No food or drinks allowed in the gym (Exception: Water Bottles).
- No Smoking is allowed anywhere in Town Hall/Gym, including the entrances.
- Alcoholic beverages, glass containers, and/or illegal substances are prohibited in any area of the facility and will result in loss of access to the facility.
- Any behaviors that may damage the facilities (Examples: chewing gum, tobacco, spitting, etc.) are prohibited.
- Abuse of the facility or equipment will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the facility. (Examples: damaging equipment or other facility property).
- No firearms permitted in the facility.
- Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, motorized vehicles (except wheelchairs) or animals (except service animals/ seeing eye dogs) are not allowed in any area of the facility.
- Threats or acts of violence will result in loss of gym privileges.
Access to Town Hall/Gymnasium
Proper scheduling is required to gain access to the gym, NO EXCEPTIONS. Scheduling Requests must be submitted through the town’s website portal. Open gym use may be scheduled no less than 5 days in advance if there is not a group currently utilizing the gym. This allows for adequate time to provide access.
Open gym is for all residents of Brighton and anyone is allowed to participate. In order to use open gym, the Town asks that at least three separate households participate in a group setting. If children are utilizing the facility (17 or below) please ensure an adult (18+) is available to supervise. The gym will not be available to individuals as this defeats the purpose of open gym, NO EXCEPTIONS. Weekend use will be for a scheduled time deemed by the Town Manager.

Gym Attire
- Proper athletic attire must be worn while using the facility.
- Sneakers, socks, athletic pants/shorts, and t-shirts are considered appropriate attire.
- Shirts should cover full chest, back and lower torso area (no sport-bras only).
- Bare feet, socks only or sandals are NOT permitted (except during certain group exercise classes).
- During winter months and rainy days, please bring a dry pair of shoes. If this becomes a problem the group or individual(s) utilizing the gym at the time may lose access to the facility if you do not have a dry pair of shoes.
Group Exercise Class Cancellations
The Town Gym offers as many group exercises as possible with a limited number of instructors. If you would like to lead a coordinated class or attend a class, please contact brightonvtrecreation@gmail.com If a class or event is cancelled there will be a post on Facebook (Town of Brighton or Brighton Recreation) and on the town’s website. You may even see a posted sign in the foyer of Town Hall.
Food and Beverages
Other than water bottles, food and beverages are not allowed in the gym unless required as part of an event approved by the Town Manager. It should also be noted that water fountains are located near the entrance to the gym.
Fire Alarms
Whenever a fire alarm is sounded, immediate evacuation of the building is the appropriate response. If there is a fire alarm while you are using the facilities, you must immediately leave the gym through the nearest exit door and remain outside until it has been announced that it is safe to enter the building.
Guests/visitors
Guests/visitors must abide by all rules posted and listed for Town Hall/Gym. If the rules cannot be followed immediate dismissal from the facility may be necessary to not take away from the event occurring. In order to return to the event if discharged, this decision will be left up to the Town Manager or Event Staff (Town Employees) present.
Summer Gym Use
The gym will be closed during the summer except for special events or group exercise classes other than basketball. While the gym is a great place to stay fit and active, Brighton offers its residents a myriad of outdoor recreational activities.
Health and safety
If you have the flu, a cold, or any other contagious illness, please do not use the gym. Using the gym with a contagious illness puts you and all other members at risk. Illness causes an individual’s system to become weaker, and the likelihood of injury increases significantly when training under these conditions. Furthermore, given the nature of physical training, the transmission of contagious diseases occurs quite readily. If someone you know is feeling ill and was utilizing the gym, please contact the Town Health Officer at bethrodondi@gmail.com or call our Health Officer at 802-274-0509.
Injuries
Any member who incurs an injury or becomes dizzy/ill while using the facility should immediately contact the Town Manager for assistance. A first aid kit is always kept in the facility and can be utilized at the discretion of the individual treating the injury. If the injury or illness is serious, PLEASE CONTACT EMERGENCY SERVICES — 911.
Lost and Found
Articles lost in the gym are kept in the foyer if it is an article of clothing. If the article that is lost is of value, it will be held in Town Hall in the Town Clerk’s office. The Town of Brighton is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles or for any items left at Town Hall/Gym while you are utilizing the facility.
Inclement Weather
During times of inclement weather Town Hall/Gym will make every effort to remain open. There may be times, however, when this is not possible. Please feel free to review the status of Town Hall/Gym by going to www.brightonvt.gov . On the website there will be an announcement on the homepage of any immediate changes. You will also see an announcement on the Town of Brighton’s Facebook page (Town of Brighton).
Closing Note
At any time, the Town reserves the right to change, modify, or cancel an event or activity for any reason deemed necessary by the Town Manager. Additional rules and procedures may follow at any time and is at the discretion of the Town Manager. Entry into this facility is an acknowledgement of the rules and procedures listed above. Failure to abide by any of the above rules will result in immediate dismissal from the facility and loss of gym privileges for a time deemed by the Town Manager.
