Public Access GreeterĀ 

Overview:

Aquatic invasive species pose a significant threat to the ecological balance of our water bodies. The Vermont Public Access Greeter Program aims to mitigate this threat by educating lake visitors about invasive species and conducting watercraft inspections to prevent their spread. We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals, aged 14 and above, to join our team as Public Access Greeters. If you’re passionate about environmental conservation and enjoy interacting with the public, this opportunity is for you.

Location: Brighton, VT

Wage: $15.00

Responsibilities:

  • Approach and interact with boaters in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of watercraft before they enter and after they come out of the water.
  • Identify and handle suspicious specimens of aquatic invasive species.
  • Collect and report data on inspected watercraft and intercepted specimens.
  • Distribute educational material on aquatic invasive species and promote awareness about their impact.
  • Attend annual Greeter Program Trainings to stay updated on program protocols, invasive species biology, regulations, and effective communication techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to conduct thorough inspections.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest in environmental conservation and knowledge of aquatic ecosystems is a plus.
  • Must be at least 14 years old.
  • Must submit a resume to the Town Clerk and fill out an online employment application available on the town’s website.

Training:

All Public Access Greeters are required to attend annual Greeter Program Trainings. This training provides essential knowledge and skills to fulfill the responsibilities of the role. Topics covered include aquatic invasive species biology, access area rules and regulations, effective communication strategies, watercraft inspection techniques, and data collection methods.
